DREADS INFO

Info over Dreads

Dreadlocks, a hairstyle that is worn with great respect and pride and has its own meaning for everyone.

When we talk about dreadlocks, also called dreads or locs and its history, there are different views on it. The origin of dreadlocks comes from the Rastafari from Jamaica. For the Rastafari, wearing locs is a belief, a statement, a lifestyle, an honor! But what we find especially important to mention, in addition to the history and origins, is that this hairstyle is now accessible to everyone. That the love for dreads comes from the heart. For some it is a cultural belief, for others it is a fashion statement. Whatever your personal reason for wearing locs, we are happy to help you! Dreadlocks come from a certain love for your hair, an expression and a dedication for this hairstyle. One calls them dreads, the other calls them locs, we do both, but call them in our texts as 'dreads' because this is in our company name. We make no distinction here, there is nothing 'dreadful' about dreads.
Maybe you've wanted to get dreads done for years, but you dreaded the opinions of others, afraid that you wouldn't get that one job if you got them. Take the step when you are ready and wear them with pride. Because that is the feeling dreads give you, proud! We would love to help you realize your dream. Whether that concerns 1 dread, beach locs or a whole head full! Everything is possible. We do this with a lot of passion and love. The Irie Dreads team consists of ladies who all have locs themselves, have years of experience as a loctitian and are experts in the field of hair/dreadlocks and can give you the best advice when it comes to locs and their care. You are in good hands with us. hands!

That's why we only have 1 chair per room, 1-on-1 contact with the customer, plenty of time to get your hair done, enjoy your latte macchiato, your cappuccino or your cup of tea. No busy waiting areas, multiple chairs, no... We only work by appointment. We stand for quality, that moment when your dreads are worked with passion and you don't have to do anything at all. The dose of love and care for your locs. At Irie Dreads we choose to bring back the warm living room feeling, a nice cup of coffee, a chat, space to ask questions and to choose jewelry and care products/necessities for your locs. We are also a small 'concept store' for local entrepreneurs who offer Handmade & Fairtrade products, such as jewelry, bags, cloths, etc.

The Methods

We work purely natural, without chemicals, only with a crochet hook. There are different methods: Crocheting with a crochet hook to get your dreads properly round and to secure all loose growth. Interlocking your dreads with the crochet hook (pull your own dread through your growth. Crocheting and interlocking for a tighter result. Twisting and crocheting for new dreads You choose the method that you would like to have applied to your hair. We can advise you and you can make the choice yourself. When making a new set of locs, we start with clean and combed hair, here we make the partings and compartment division to determine how thick/thin the locomotives will be and how they will fall... 1 direction, slanted separations, side thicker or thinner, everything is negotiable, indicate clearly what you want and realize what is feasible .see our FAQ for all other information

Having locomotives installed and/or updated can be painful.

It depends on how sensitive you are and how often your hair has been touched, which you will experience as painful.

Crocheting feels like one hair is being pulled each time. It can be experienced as painful or irritating. The Irie Dreads team tries to take everyone's pain threshold into account and work on your head very gently and precisely, as much as possible.

We do everything we can to make your experience as painless as possible, but the fact remains that hair removal can be painful.

If you have never had your hair combed out at the hairdresser, or have never had it braided, or are not used to anything, keep in mind that it will hurt.

For parents of children (from 5 to 18 years old) who would like to make locs, we advise you to think very carefully about this choice, let them know that it hurts... not only when making the locs but also every 10 weeks that you have it updated.

Is your child petty and/or do you have doubts? then wait until he/she is 18 years old and can make this decision themselves.
